Releasing seals

At the end of May, four grey seals were transferred to the Baltic Sea. They were born in the seal aquarium of the Institute of Oceanography in the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography at the University of Gdańsk of Prof. Krzysztof Skóra. The seals’ names are: Omułek, Ostoja, Oceanografia and Okrzemka. They were released at the beach of Słowiński National Park in Chołpin. The area was secured by the employees of the Institute and the WWF Blue Patrol volunteers. The seals were marked with transmitters that will send data about their location and migration. Apart from the seals born in the Institute, the two seals found on Polish sea shore have returned. Jastrzębek came to the place where it was found, which is Jastrzębia Góra, and Sztuka returned to the mouth of Vistula (Wisła), near Sztutowo. Two more seals (Chałka – Chałupy) and (Orzeszek – Orzechowo) are held for rehabilitation in the Institute of Oceanography in the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography at the University of Gdańsk of Prof. Krzysztof Skóra. They will be released to the sea at the most suitable time.
