Monitoring
One of the main tasks of the project is to monitor the presence of seals and porpoises in the sea area of ??the Słowiński National Park. It will be implemented by monitoring patrols from the beach shores at least once a week and by boat patrols at least once a month. The monitoring of the porpoise occurrence will be carried out directly by audio monitoring of these animals due to the fact that this marine mammal is very rarely seen. To that end, it will be necessary to deploy specialist equipment called C-POD within the maritime zone of SNP. The deployment of fifteen C-PODS along the SPN maritime zone has been planned within approximately 1 nautical mile from the shore at a distance approx. every 2 km from each another.
Moreover, it is important to locate accurately potential barriers of anthropogenic origin for marine mammals in the sea area of ??Słowiński National Park. It is assumed that this is the gear used by fishermen - including the phantom fishing nets. The boat equipped with echo sounder will locate the obstructions on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, and then those obstructions will be revised and removed by an underwater vehicle with a camera. Aquatic organisms and their concentrations which are relevant to the quality of the habitat of mammals, as well as foreign underwater objects shall be filmed and photographed. There are fifteen cruises scheduled for the purpose of recovering phantom fishing nets and fifteen cruises for mapping the intense fishing within the Słowiński National Park area during the project ? depending on the water conditions.
