Aims and objectives of the project
The main aims and objectives of the project comprise:
- Monitoring the occurrence of marine mammals, in particular of grey seal and harbor porpoise by foot patrols from the shore and by patrols from a boat, as well as the monitoring of harbor porpoises using hydro acoustic detectors.
- Raising the local community awareness of the biology of marine organisms with special emphasis on marine mammals.
- Locating and removing the obstacles present on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, mainly fishing nets.
- Locating the potential barriers of anthropogenic origin for marine mammals in the sea area of Słowiński National Park.
- Mapping the location of threats to marine mammals as well as use of the Baltic Sea by marine mammals.
- Designating the areas of particular habitat values for marine mammals.
