Good to know
If you find a seal on the beach:
1. Keep your distance:
A seal is a wild animal that can carry many diseases and also can bite dangerously.
2. Do not drive the animal into the water:
They are the animals connected with land and must leave the water from time to time to relax on the beach, dry their fur or to give birth to offspring.
3. Do not ignore the situation:
If the seal is emaciated, injured or sick (heavy breathing , cough, runny nose) it needs your help.
4. Notify the appropriate organizations:
Call us:
Management Office of the Słowiński National Park
Marine Station of the Institute of Oceanography of the University of Gdańsk
5. Try to ensure peace and security to the seal until our arrival:
Do not allow any humans or animals near the seal. Try to fence off the animal with some string, tape or sticks at a distance of few meters.
6. We will evaluate the condition of the seal you found, on the spot, and, if necessary we will take it to the Marine Station to be tested and to undergo rehabilitation.
7. After the treatment we will let it free.
Wherever you are in the world, always find out where the nearest animal rescue center is. Be ready to provide assistance when you find injured animals.
