Seal observation
On the 3 of June 2015, during the beach patrol, a floating seal was observed. The sighting took place in the early hours of the morning, at an altitude of 196 km of the sea coast. During the 15 minutes of observation, the seal emerged three times at a distance of about 50-70 meters from the shore. During the seal observation, the seal wove only its head and the transmitter on its back was not observed.
I consulted the observations with specialists from the Marine Station at the University of Gdańsk Institute of Oceanography in Hel who found that it was a youngling but not one of the seals that had been were released on May 28 in Czołpino. Moreover, during the observation, none of the released seals was in the maritime waters of the Słowinski National Park, which is confirmed by migration routes of marine mammals that can be tracked on the website: http://wedrowkifok.wwf.pl.
We remind you, that any seal observation should be reported to organizations dealing with the protection of marine mammals such as IO UG Marine Station in Hel, the Blue WWF Patrol or Słowinski National Park. At the same time, remember not to get too close to the seal and ensure it a peaceful rest.
